SD Team 2410 to Honduras

  If you were to ask the majority of us how we slept last night, you would most likely hear the answer “caliente and un poquito” (hot and little of). At about 10:00 pm, the town of La Paz experienced a power outage. Shortly after 5:30 am our security guard Hector came to rescue as he ran into one of us. With little to none Spanish speaking skills, we were able to communicate no power/water. Thankfully, he went and turned on the generator. After that we were able to start our morning routine.  Our breakfast this morning was a typical American favorite, pancakes. Our pancakes were served with fruit, such as watermelon, cantaloupe, and papaya and honey to top our pancakes.  Due to church being at 3 PM in the afternoon and clinic to follow, we were fortunate enough to have another cultural exploration day in Comayagua. Our lovely bus drivers/security guards picked us up in the cute yellow bus around 9 AM. Our day in Comayagua started with a walk to a local coffee shop called ...

 WOW! What an experience each of us had today throughout our first day of clinic! Our day started bright and early this morning at 7:00 a.m. with breakfast and coffee. Our breakfast consisted of eggs, tortillas, avocado, sausage, beans, cheese, and plantains. After breakfast, we walked 0.8 miles to the church where we set up our clinic for the day. Each of us had a very important roll within the clinic throughout the day. Pat and Jen were primarily in charge of all pharmacy needs. Reagan, Becky, Deb, and Julia, helped out Dr. Kate, Dr. Patti, Dr. Alisa, and student Dr. Kyler with vital signs, weights, blood sugars, cleaning out ears, and more. Bethel was primarily in charge of entertaining the children with crafts and stories. Jaidyn educated each of the individuals about personal hygiene with her helpful assistant Granny Vanny (Bev). Last, but certainly not least, Cindy was the glue that held us all together and kept everything running as a smooth as possible.      ...

Hola, happy Friday! Our mission trip started off on Thursday with a group leaving from South Dakota where they were then joined by a couple more from Michigan this morning in Miami. We all flew together from there into Honduras.   From the airport, we were transported via this cute yellow bus. Inside, we had all of our personal luggage along with 21 checked bags (supplies needed for clinic). We dropped off the cargo at the church and then headed to our home away from home for the next week. After we settled into our new rooms, played some cards and relaxed, we were able to enjoy our first meal together. It consisted of delicious grilled chicken, rice, tossed salad, and fresh tortillas. We topped off the meal with a tasty ice cream treat. We’re off to bed to get rested for a busy day tomorrow. 

 For our friends and family members:   MOST Ministries Team 2410 is a team of 15 individuals traveling to La Paz, Honduras June 20, returning June 30, 2024. Comprised of M.D.'s, medical students, R.N.'s, educators and others, the team will attend to health needs and teach good nutrition to community members in and around Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church (Iglesia Luterana Castillo Fuerte). The team will be hosted there by the Lutheran pastor and will rely on the expertise and assistance of a local M.D. This is our destination! We request your prayers for our safety and effectiveness as a Christ-centered team.
